Why Biofeedback?

Biofeedback can be combined in many ways with various methods of psychological and physical therapy. Solely by measuring body signals, such as heart rate, muscle tension, breathing and galvanic skin response it can be demonstrated very nicely to the patient how the body reacts to specific topics, thoughts, mental images or suggestions.

In this sense, biofeedback can be seen as a psychophysiological mirror, that demonstrates the connections between body and mind very clearly and therefore represents an important contribution to psychoeducation.

Biofeedback can just as well be used as a classical training that enables the patient to learn by means of the feedback on the monitor to influence autonomic body functions specifically in any desired direction. In this case one speaks of a biofeedback therapy.

Main fields of application are:

  • Stress Management training
  • Relaxation training
  • Support in the treatment of psychosomatic disorders
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Migraine
  • Pain therapy
  • Treatment of some kinds of incontinence, where specific muscles can be strengthened again with the help of biofeedback.

A special form of biofeedback is neurofeedback. The fields of application overlap partially, but with neurofeedback more specific and profound effects are achieved. More information, especially on the fields of application of EEG-biofeedback (neurofeedback).
